A photographer’s artistic fascination with mannequins is explored through a series of 390 portraits from around the world. This compelling photographic essay captures the personalities and drama of storefront figures, while presenting intriguing questions about the nature of mannequins: their relationship to art and the role they play in shaping women’s form in perception and fantasy. This is a book of photographs about mannequins. Initially, I was intrigued by mannequins and what I perceived as individual personalities in each one photographed, despite their inanimate nature. In traveling both domestically and overseas, I sought out mannequins in their "natural environment," the store window in most instances, and endeavored to capture, if possible, an essence of each, a glimmer of personality. With imagination, attention to camera angle, and other factors, I believe the attempt was successful. That will be for the viewer of these pages to judge. I find the images compelling, particularly when taken in the aggregate.
