People are likely to be inspired by myths and legends. Christopher Paolini, the author of Eragon, Eldest and Brisingr, wrote a lot of Norse legends in his books. He was inspired by J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, which was also based on Norse legends.
